Breeding, Training and Sales of Friesian Horses and Norwegian Fjord Horses

The Norwegian Fjord Horse is one of the world's oldest and purest breeds. It is believed that the original Fjord Horse migrated to Norway and was domesticated over 4,000 years ago. The Fjord Horse is one of very few breeds to retain the original primitive equine character and color. A unique characteristic of the Fjord horse is the mane. The center hair of the mane is dark (usually black) while the outer hair is white. Most Fjords are a brown dun color, although a few rarer colors are also available. Fjords generally range in size from 13.2 to 14.2 hands and weigh between 900 and 1200 pounds at maturity.

The charming, gentle disposition of the Fjord Horse is its most outstanding quality. They are hardy, long lived, agile, sure-footed, and willing. They love attention, are "people oriented", and are happiest when they are working. The Norwegian Fjord learns fast and has an amazing ability to retain what is learned even after long periods of inactivity. Their cool temperament and graceful, balanced gaits both under saddle and in harness, make them the ideal family horse. They are used for schooling horses for the young or inexperienced rider, yet are large and powerful enough for adults to ride and enjoy.

Bred for both riding and driving, the Norwegian Fjord is a capable partner who performs in endurance classes, elementary dressage and cross country jumping classes. These gentle Fjord horses are used extensively in riding schools and riding for the handicapped programs. The tourist industry along the West Country fjords of Norway has always used the Fjord Horse as an important means of transportation and as a good representative for Norwegian culture.

Most horse enthusiasts want an all around horse they can use for many pursuits. The Norwegian Fjord never fails to deliver and will make you a happy and proud horse owner. Please visit our Sale Horse Page to see Norwegian Fjord Horses currently available.
